Welcome to Pre-K

School Year 2024-2025

September 2024

Dear Families,

It is our pleasure to welcome all our new families to PS 48! We are looking forward to a fantastic and safe school year! September is going to be a time of transition for children as well as parents. We will begin our year in a slow gradual way so our children will have time to begin trusting their teachers and feeling comfortable in their new environments. During this time children are becoming familiar with a new environment, new people, and new routines. This is also a period in which children may experience separation for the first time from a parent, family member or loved one. We will work with you and your child to ensure a smooth and supportive transition! We are excited to welcome you to our school and to meet your child!

Hi! My name is Janet Sabillon aka Ms. Sabillon and I will be your child’s teacher this year! I am so excited to share this big steppingstone in your child's life. This is my 2nd year in PS 48, my eighth year in the Department of Education and my 21st year working as an educator. My passion has always been teaching and watching my students grow to their best potential. My parents are from the Latin region, my mother is from Puerto Rico, and my father is from Honduras. A passion of mine is the importance of embracing each other's culture and making it a part of our educational experience. Fun facts about me are I love music and dance; I speak spanish, love animals and my favorite color is blue.

Alongside me will be Mrs. Machado, she has been a paraprofessional for PS 48 for 9 Years. Some fun facts about her are that she is fun, energetic, and outgoing.

Attached you will see a school supply list of all the things we need for your child in the classroom. Folders will be sent daily with any new and upcoming information in our school. For any communication needs we will be connecting through Remind or email (Miss Sabillon: jsabillon@schools.nyc.gov and Mrs. Machado at Gmina2@schools.nyc.gov. We also can set up meetings to discuss your child’s progress or answer any questions you may have. Can’t wait to begin this adventure with all of you!
