Welcome PS48 The Mapleton School
Public School 48, The Mapleton School was founded in 1915. At that time, the school was actually located on 18th avenue and 65th street in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn. The school was a three story building that looked more like a house than a school. The community at the time was a burgeoning immigrant population that was growing exponentially. It was then decided that the school would be modernized and relocated on 18th avenue and 60th street. This placed the school on a crossroad between the three Brooklyn communities of Bensonhurst, Borough Park, and Mapleton. When the school opened, it was now a five story brick building with 40 classrooms to serve community. The building was now referred to by the community as the castle for its distinct arches, columns, brick exterior, huge windows, and squared peaks on the roof. The building also featured some unique woodwork on the auditorium stage the still exists till this day and bronze accents throughout the building.
